Whoopie Pies - Devil Dog Sandwiches

Ingredients
  • Cookie
  • 1½ cups sugar
  • ½ cup SACO Premium Cocoa
  • ¼ cup shortening
  • 1 egg
  • ¾ cup water
  • 3 Tbsp SACO Cultured Buttermilk Blend
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1 tsp salt
  • ½ tsp baking soda
  • ½ tsp cream of tartar
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • Filling
  • ½ cup milk
  • 2½ Tbsp flour
  • ½ cup Crisco shortening
  • ½ cup sugar dash salt
  • 1 tsp vanilla
Instructions
  1. Cookie
  2. Preheat oven to 325°F.
  3. In a mixing bowl, combine sugar, Saco Premium Baking Cocoa, shortening, egg and water.
  4. Mix until creamy.
  5. Add the remaining ingredients and mix well.
  6. Let stand for 10 minutes; then drop by teaspoon onto a greased cookie sheet.
  7. Bake for 12 minutes.
  8. Filling
  9. Cook milk and flour on stove until thick like paste.
  10. It will be very stiff.
  11. Let cool completely.
  12. When cool, whip.
  13. Add shortening and whip again.
  14. Then add sugar, salt and vanilla.
  15. Spread filling between two cookies like a sandwich.
